Dr. Osman Sharifi is a visionary scientist and co-founder of 2C Bioscience, a biotechnology startup dedicated to revolutionizing molecular testing for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). With a career spanning cutting-edge research, technology development, and a passion for improving human health, Dr. Sharifi brings a unique blend of expertise and innovation to the field of molecular diagnostics and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Before his academic pursuits, Dr. Sharifi was an early employee at 10X Genomics and Complete Genomics, where he played a pivotal role in co-developing core technologies that have since become industry standards. His contributions to these companies highlight his ability to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and real-world applications.
Dr. Sharifi holds a BS in Cell and Molecular Biology from California State University, East Bay, where his passion for molecular biology and its potential to transform human health first took root. Dr. Sharifi earned his PhD in Biochemistry, Cellular, Molecular, and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Davis, under the mentorship of Dr. Janine LaSalle and Dr. Ian Korf. His doctoral research was widely recognized for its excellence, earning him prestigious awards, including the Excellence in Human Genetics Research Award from the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), the Syngenta Fellowship Award in Human Health Applications of New Technologies, and the NIH Environmental Health Sciences Fellowship Award.
Prior to founding 2C Bioscience in 2025, Dr. Sharifi was a CIRM Postdoctoral Fellow, where he pioneered research on Rett syndrome using cortical organoids, laying the groundwork for novel therapeutic approaches. His work during this time underscored his commitment to understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders and translating these insights into actionable solutions. At 2C Bioscience, Dr. Sharifi is driven by the vision of bringing molecular testing to Autism Spectrum Disorder, aiming to provide earlier, more accurate diagnoses and pave the way for personalized interventions.
